The Lehigh Valley Hospital wish to purchase is a Lasor Doppier Machine that senses blood flow in burn tissue which tells the depth of the injury and selects the appropriate treatment for the patient(s). Cost of the machine is $27,550. Back on Tuesday, March 15, 2005, Mike Kush, Stu Lathrop and Harold Seibert met with Stephanie Schweder-Kratzer, Director of Annual Giving, Jacqueline D. K. Fenicle, RN MSN Director Clinical Services, Regional Burn Center and Burn Recovery along with Nancy Humes from the Burn Center. The ladies asked about our chapter, e.g., total members, how we got started, and how this money is generated. Harold Seibert stated that the monies are obtained by Martha Kush, Mike Kush, and the crew that sets up for the Annual Spring Melt that is held every year at the Allentown Fairground in Allentown, PA. We stated that since 1982 the chapter has donated over $108,000 to different hospital burn divisions. Mike called the hospitals to ask how we could help their Burn Unit. The Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network responded that they are planning to purchase a Lasor Doppler Machine costing $27,550. A $10,000 check was presented to help them purchase this special machine. The ladies gave many thanks to Mike and your Chapter and invited us to the Burn Unit at another date. We also give many thanks to Martha and Mike Kush along with the set up crew for making it come true. The 9 bed center provides state of the art treatment for patients from Central, Eastern, & Northern Pennsylvania, Western New Jersey and parts of North York State. In 2007 it will be expanded to 18 adult and four pediatric care beds. The Lehigh Valley Center opened in 1974 and is one of seven Burn Centers in Pennsylvania caring for about 400 pediatric and adult burn patients each year. The Burn Recovery Center is located in the Jaindl Family Pavilion at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest & I-78, the center has six critical care beds, three step-down beds.

The Union Historical Fire Society in Hellertown, Pa., recently donated $5,000 to purchase a stretcher chair for the Crozer-Chester Nathan Speare Regional Burn Treatment Center. This special chair allows critically ill burn patients to sit up after lying on their backs. The chair helps to improve patient's lung healing and to prevent pneumonia.
Michael Kush, president of the Union Historical Fire Society, presents the chair to Cindy Reigart, RN, nurse manager of the Crozer-Chester Nathan Speare Regional Burn Treatment Center.
